#1 New Game
WARNING: The following contains spoilers!
Following a lead, the Black Tiger, Pacific Fong, arrives at Il BARtoromo,
a restaurant in Little Italy, where he finds Mafia Don Luigi Bartoromo
and his gang massacred. Concurrently, Eric Fong is called into the Red
Dragon Triad Society headquarters, where the leader, Genghis, turns on
Eric, having recently learned that Eric's father is not only a cop, but
is the one heading a new taskforce against the Red Dragon Triad Society.
In
Il BARtoromo the Black Tiger confronts Skull Face Gandolphini, a rival
of Luigi Bartoromo's and a man the Black Tiger has a long history with.
As Eric is about to be killed, the Black Tiger is killed in a quick exchange
by a silver bullet from a gold plated gun. In an instant Eric sees everything
previous wielders of the Black Tiger's Gift have seen and he receives
the Black Tiger's power. Eric uses the power to lay some serious Kung
Fu down on the Red Dragon Triad Society, an exchange in which Genghis
is killed, leaving Eric as the new leader. Three days later, Pacific Fong
is laid to rest, the circumstances of his death undisclosed, and considered
confidential police business. The service is attended by Eric, and the
Red Dragon Triad Society members, as well as Jenn Fong, Evel Carrigan,
Jr., Joe Cortez, Brett Engel, and Pacific's police workmates. There is
tension between the Triad members and the police at the service, but there
are no incidents. Evel consoles Eric, but Jenn makes a concerted effort
to stays clear of Evel. Evel
approaches Jenn and says, "I wish it weren't just bad times that brought
us together..." but she brushes off Evel and his comment. That evening
in the house Jenn grew up in, Brett is consoling Jenn as they watch television.
They see partially scrambled footage from the battle between Skull Face
and the Black Tiger and see the injuries sustained by the Black Tiger,
leaving Paparazzo's unanswered question of the hour: "Is the Black Tiger
dead?" Eric sends the Triad members to find the whereabouts of Skull Face
by any means necessary. Not satisfied with leaving her father's murder
as a confidential police matter, Jenn gains access to the coroner despite
the fact Evel has ordered no viewing of the body. She sees that Pac's
injuries are in line with those the Black Tiger suffered. |
